$25M INVESTMENT IN POPULAR VENUE

Tourism wins at new Adcock Park
THE redevelopment of Adcock Park at West Gosford could be a major tourism win for the region, according to Russell Mills of Tourism Central Coast.
Central Coast Council is set to invest $25.35M over the next two financial years to redevelop the popular sporting venue, which includes a $1M grant from the NSW Government’s Public Reserves Management Fund.

Key to the redevelopment is investigating the possibility of increasing the number of netball courts at the park to 32 in a bid to attract various state netball events and NSW championships to the area.

Council officers are currently investigating the impact this would have on other users of the park.

“Well planned Infrastructure projects on the Central Coast will always have a positive outcome for tourism,” Mr Mills said.

“Our aim is to encourage everyone to have a little adventure on the Central Coast, and development and upgrading of local sporting facilities encourages more visiting teams and their families to our region.

“With our marketing initiatives, it’s a great opportunity to entice these visitors to experience the region off the court, which in turn injects lucrative tourism dollars into our economy.

“This is particularly of benefit during the non-peak tourism season with netball traditionally played during winter.”

The redevelopment project will be undertaken as a two stage program of works to optimise access for sporting codes and allow construction to commence sooner and will include:

• Construction of a single multi-purpose sportsground amenities building to provide a
more sustainable, cost-effective facility in the long term;
• Upgrade of the existing overloaded mains power supply;
• Construction of a new water main to replace the existing ageing asbestos main;
• Demolition of the existing structurally compromised touch amenities building, ageing
netball amenities building and baseball net;
• Conversion of the existing AFL/cricket building from amenities to storage;
• Construction of a new consolidated car park at the entry to the facility to improve site
safety;
• Reconstruction of the playing fields including installation of irrigation and sub-soil drainage to improve useability and playability;
• Construction of additional netball courts to provide opportunities for larger scale events to be held;
• Installation of new floodlighting to Australian Standard for 100 lux luminance for AFL and touch sporting fields, netball courts and athletics field/velodrome areas;
• Construction of footpaths and maintenance vehicle accesses to provide all weather.
