RETURN AND EARN IS CATCHING

More vending machines to follow
COAST residents have caught recycling fever and are returning used bottles with a vengeance.

Seven Return and Earn reverse vending machines are now installed coastwide, and more to follow.

Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast Scot MacDonald said people could choose to receive a docket redeemable for cash or arrange an electronic transfer using PalPay to donate to charity at the machines.

“Return and Earn is the largest litter reduction initiative to be introduced in NSW,” Mr MacDonald said.

“Further vending machines will be developed across the coast in coming months.”

Mr MacDonald said more than 150 million containers had been returned through the scheme state-wide since December 1 last year with most drink containers between 350mil and 3 litres eligible for a 10 cent refund.

Terrigal state Liberal MP Adam Crouch was on hand when a machine was installed in the Green Point Shopping centre on March 12 and said the initiative was proving to be a huge success.

“The two (previously installed) collection points in the Terrigal electorate have been very well utilised so far with
over 885,000 returned at Woolworths Erina Fair and almost 1.1 million at Carpet Court, Erina,” Mr Crouch said.

Meanwhile, at the Woolworths Lisarow machine, more than 2 million drink containers have been returned and at Woolworths Bateau Bay more than 2.15 million.

One of the most recent machines to be installed was at Coles Wadalba, the first for the Wyong electorate.

Wyong state Labor MP David Harris said a campaign by residents had led up to the installation.

“It also looks like one is going in at Wyong Golf Club according to reports,” Mr Harris said on Facebook.

“But I’m not sure of the commissioning date yet. We do need more, so we'll keep pushing.”

There are RVMs at: Woolworths Lisarow; Woolworths Bateau Bay; Coles Green Point; 90 The Entrance Rd, Erina; Erina Fair, Coles Wadalba and Coles West Gosford.

Containers should be intact (not crushed or broken) and have a readable barcode to be eligible for refund.
