NEW COAST TOURIST WEBSITE

Boost for $1B regional industry
DALLAS SHERRINGHAM
THE region’s booming travel industry has received a further boost with the launch of the new Visit Central Coast NSW website.

The web site went live recently and gives an excellent overall view of our region’s attractions and lifestyle.

Adventure, Beaches and Cuisine are the key elements of the web site and perfectly illustrate what sets the coast apart from other NSW destinations.

Tourism is worth $1B to the region this year, but that figure will be increased with the right management and promotion of our marketing program, both nationally and globally.

Visitor numbers from newly affluent China and India and other Asian neighbors will increase dramatically in the coming years if Australia plays its cards right. The coast can be at the forefront of this boom if it takes the initiative and promotes itself as the “real Australia”.

The marketing component is just one element of a complex mix of infrastructure, ease of access and “must see and do” tourism experiences.

The new web site can be found at www.visitcentralcoast.com.au.

One minor criticism was the lack of a proper, accessible Media Information Pack which is a key element of all tourism sites around the world. But apart from that it will receive a “well done” from the many businesses relying on professional promotion of our region across all media and social media formats

Tourism is a key economic and employment generator for the Central Coast and accordingly  Council has increased its investment in tourism to ensure more visitors know about the region’s coastline,  forests, unique food and wines and the wide range of services and resorts the Central Coast has to offer.

Council Director Connected Communities Julie Vaughan said Council wanted to drive more visitors to the Coast and the web site was a great digital asset to help deliver that.

“With 88% of all Australians owning a smart phone, a mobile ready destination website can effectively become a more practical and digital alternative to a traditional visitor guide,” Ms Vaughan said.

“Visitcentralcoast.com.au does this by offering more information in a highly engaging, dynamic and usable form, ensuring visitors to the Central Coast have the ability to easily access destination based information which will encourage their dispersal throughout the region.”

Mayor Jane Smith said the vision for the Central Coast was to be the natural choice for leisure, business and special events in regional NSW.

“We’re making sure everyone knows that the Central Coast is the ideal destination – be it a long weekend trip, a relaxing holiday or even a picturesque sea change,” says Mayor Smith.

In order to ensure potential visitors to the Central Coast have a positive perception of the destination, visitcentralcoast.com.au provides local tourism businesses with the opportunity to list their offerings on this centralised destination website. Businesses can select either a free or paid business listing, and can contact Tourism Central Coast to discuss packages further.
