BRINGING IDENTITY BACK TO ETTALONG

Banners make a welcomong statement
VISITORS to Ettalong are in for a pleasant surprise, with eight huge new banners in place to welcome them to the seaside village.

Peninsula Tourism Partners installed the Welcome to Ettalong Beach banners along Ocean View Road late last month to give the town a real identity and bring it back to life.

The three coloured waves on the banners represent blue for the waterways, green for Brisbane Water and Bouddi National Parks and yellow for the stunning beaches which line the peninsula.

“This is just the start of many new and exciting things we have planned for small business and the tourism industry in our region, a spokesman for the group said.

Peninsula Tourism Partners is a group of  business owner/operators who are passionate about improving tourism in the region, promoting local business, creating more local events and encouraging locals to eat, shop and play local.

The non- profit organisation spent months on the banners project, from the design of the flags and seeking council approval to installation, all done in secret to preserve the element of surprise.

“This project is just a small way of adding a splash of colour to the main street,” the spokesman said.

Gosford State Labor MP Liesl Tesch came good with a $500 grant towards the cost of the flags.

“Ettalong Beach, and the peninsula business community in general, has been struggling financially since the diversion of the Palm Beach to Ettalong Service,” the spokesman said.

“With no confirmation date on when the service will resume, this small gesture is just one of many more exciting projects we have planned,

“We aim to help other suburbs on the peninsula with welcoming street flags, with Umina Beach next on our list.”
