BOOST TO DEVELOPMENT

High-speed rail for Coast
DALLAS SHERRINGHAM
THE Central Coast will play a major role in the provision of a high-speed train service to be built along Australia’s East Coast.
Central Coast Council has received details of Infrastructure Australia’s Corridor Protection Report.

The report looks at the issue of preserving land for the high speed corridor between Melbourne and Brisbane.

A council spokesman said the announcement was a timely one for the region.

“Council is already working closely with the Coordinator-General for the Central Coast Ms Lee Shearer on an infrastructure plan for the region.”

Australia has lagged far behind most first world countries and many third world countries in rail infrastructure.

The high speed train will allow trains to travel up to 300kph on their own secure, raised routes. It would presumably follow closely to the M1 on its route through the coast.

The high speed train would be a tremendous boost to business and development on the coast and further north.
