SEWER DISCHARGE ALERT AT TERRIGAL LAGOON

SEWERAGE discharge into Terrigal Lagoon has occurred because of an electrical failure at a sewerage pump station. Central Coast Council is asking the community to avoid all contact with the lagoon until further notice. Council crews responded immediately, and Council continues to monitor and manage the situation. The EPA has been notified. Water quality monitoring has been undertaken at Terrigal Lagoon and the surrounding area and will continue until typical water quality has returned. Warning signs are in place, and the community is advised to avoid swimming and any other recreational activities in these waterways until the signage has been removed. Council apologies for any inconvenience and will continue to monitor the area. With any sewer discharge our primary concern is the health and safety of the public and our environment. Breaks and leaks and other operational issues will periodically occur across the sewer system. Council has crews on standby 24/7 and encourages the community to continue letting them know – day or night – about any sewer issues so we can resolve them quickly by calling 4306 7900.
