HOLROYD'S NEW WEBSITE FOR ASBESTOS SAFETY

AS part of its commitment to asbestos safety, Holroyd City Council has launched a new website during Asbestos Awareness Month, aimed at giving homeowners and families the tools they need for dealing with asbestos in household renovation projects.

Holroyd City Mayor, Clr Greg Cummings, said the Asbestos Answers website will provide householders with the answers to their asbestos questions before starting any sort of renovation work, ensuring their safety and the safety of family and neighbours.

"The website is a free, easy and quick tool for the community to use and is designed to help locals make more informed decisions about how they might remove and dispose of asbestos," Mayor Cummings said today.

"Our community needs to know the facts about the hazardous material because the possibility of exposure is a real threat when you're sitting in the middle of Sydnesy's asbestos belt.

"If you're not sure about asbestos in and around your home, talk to Council or a licensed removalist and treat it like it is asbestos, just to be on the safe side."

As a recognised leader and long-time advocate for asbestos safety, Council's Asbestos Awareness Month Program includes:

•    Free Asbestos Collection for quantities under 10sqm – Register via 9840 9840 or email hcc@holroyd.nsw.gov.au
•    Asbestos Information Night on November 20, 2014 at Council Chambers in Merrylands from 6.30pm to 8.30pm – participants will receive a free asbestos removal kit valued at $100.
•    Fight the Dust coasters at your local pub or hotel.
•    Council Foyer – lights around the Chambers will turn blue.

A 'Fight the Dust' pack which includes a high quality tape measure, carpenter's pencil, notebook, pen and magnet will be sent to users who visit the new Asbestos Answers website and leave feedback.

Visit Asbestos Answers at www.asbestosanswers.com.au when you need a question about asbestos answered. For information about Council's Asbestos Awareness Month activities, contact the Environmental Health Team via 9840 9840.
